Recipe from a Navajo Indian:
2 c flour
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 c water
Early in the day mix dough. (It needs to rest a minimun of 2 hours. Can be left all day or mixed the night before. Will not change in appearance.) Stir together and cover. Heat lard in a pot in yard, or use an electric fry pan set to 450. Four hands, pinch off golf size ball of dough and stretch, don't roll, about 7 inches. Don't worry about holes. Drop slowly into hot fat and brown 1-2 minutes. Turn with a long stick or tongs. Brown second side.
Good with butter, honey, powdered sugar, stew, beans or tacos. Makes about 6-7 rounds.
