Banana Bread

We called this St. John's Banana Bread. I still am unsure about St. John part. It is one of my Grandma McDonnell's recipes and is never dry like most other banana breads I have tried.

1/2 c butter
1 c sugar
2 eggs
2 c flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3 med mashed bananas
1 c chopped nuts (optional)
butter & cinnamon/sugar mixture for topping

Cream butter and sugar, beat in eggs. Mix in dry ingredients. Beat in bananas. Add the nuts. Pour into a greased loaf pan. Bake at 350 for 60-80 minutes depending on your oven. It should come out toothpick clean.

While the bread is still warm, put butter on top and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture.
